Ride For Pride 8

Third time's the charm!

THE REALITY: This feels like the most imporant Ride for Pride yet. In the last year I've felt a lot of the hope I had when writing my 2016 Ride for Pride page get slowly, and then unceremoniously, yanked out from under my feet. Every time I've wanted to throw in the towel I'm reminded in some small way of the work that we do and the communities we impact.

In 2016 alone our Education Team at the LGBTQ Academy worked with over 10,000 people in 276 trainings and workshops in Rochester, across New York state, and in Oklahoma, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, California, Massachusetts, and Indiana. I put my face out in front of 6,000 of those 10,000. We worked with everyone from Enterprise Rentals to NYSUT, CSEA, and NHRA, to almost every public school district in our area to help foster welcoming and inclusive spaces at every turn.

For all the numbers and statistics, what has really mattered - and kept me going when hope seemed to be shrinking - has been the individual impact we have made through conversation and connection. Each person that comes up to me after a training to say "what you said made a difference to me" is the reason we are still here...the reason we persist.

THE BID: This year our organization needs your support and ally-ship more than ever. We are entering a time where we must all work together in solidarity and partnership like never before. I am striving to raise at least $1,000 for the wonderful work the Alliance does day in and day out for our communities across age, identity, and all other spectrums.

Chip in and help fund a source of light in an increasingly murky world.

THE PERKS: If I meet my fundraising goal, I will ride this years ride costumed! Our theme is Beauty and the Beast and I'm already pulling out my shiny gold shorts in anticipation of decking myself out as Lumiere. As always, I will ride with the names of every single person who donates to my page on my body. Copious evidence of my ridiculousness will be provided on any platform my supporters choose (facebook, twitter, tumblr, email, carrier pigeon, live-streaming interpretive dance, show up at your place of work for a photo opp. - you name it!)

Please consider donating any amount you can to this wonderful fundraiser. If you have 1, 5, 25, 100, 500 dollars - all donations go directly to the programs at the Alliance (and are tax deductible!)

With your dollars and my copious amounts of sweat (seriously, it's not pretty), we can keep changing the world!
