My name is Dean. I'm running the 2012 ANTARCTICA MARATHON to promote fitness and support penguin conservation and scientific research in glorious Antarctica!
Crazy? Oh yeah.
But it takes something out of the ordinary to draw attention to Antarctica. Most of us think of it as the exceedingly cold place at the bottom of the world. But it's vital to our existence. It is home to wonderfully hearty flora and fauna (including our friends the penguins) and is the setting for some of the most exciting and important scientific research going.
I'm raising money for Oceanites ("Ocean-eye-tees").
Oceanites is a nonprofit science and education foundation dedicated to the understanding and conservation of the world's oceans, islands, wildlife (especially penguins) and the important and breathtaking land of Antarctica. It's ongoing major research project is the unparalleled Antarctic Site Inventory.
Oceanites is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charity.

Held in march of 2012, this is an official 26.2 mile course in the frozen South. The Antarctic wilderness is actually quite fragile. As such, the marathon is a zero-impact event.
Your donation will directly support groundbreaking scientific research, and the broader understanding of our wonderful friends, the penguins.
Thanks so much for your support!
