Welcome to my COPD fundraising page!
When I first heard that my grandfather was diagnosed with Stage-IV COPD, I wondered what it was. All I knew was that he was struggling to breathe even after mild activities or exercises like walking from one room to another. As I researched more about COPD, I learned that it is actually the 3rd leading cause of death in the United States, after heart disease and cancer. Yet when I mention COPD, no one seems to know what it is!
COPD is the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. People affected with this disease lose their ability to breathe over time. This disease is irreversible and has no cure, but its progression can be slowed down if diagnosed and treated at the right time. The problem is, so many people don't even know they have it; I want to raise awareness so people can have the chance to intercept it early, which I wish we could have done for my grandpa.
The mission of the COPD Foundation is to develop and support programs which improve the quality of life through research, education, early diagnosis, and enhanced therapy for persons whose lives are impacted by Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Please visit www.copdfoundation.org to learn more about COPD and what the foundation does to help improve the lives of COPD patients and educate future generations.
