As I gratefully receive donations from friends and family for the Polar Plunge, I often hear how "crazy" I am for wanting to jump into the freezing lake. Well, I' ve been told I'm crazy for a other reasons, and maybe deservedly so, but for this cause, the Special Olympics, it seems to be a no brainer. It sounds crazy I know, but it certainly draws attention to and raises awareness of how special the Special Olympics are.

I was blessed to have raised five healthy children and see them compete in a wide variety of sporting events, including track & field and basketball. What a thrill to watch them compete and often receive a ribbon or trophy. What parent doesn't want that for their child? I used to compete in sporting events as well and I still remember what it felt like to receive an award. I didn't always place first, secord or even third, but I do remember what it takes to practice and prepare and finally get the opportunity to compete. Anyone who competes in sports knows there is a lot involved, including cost.

I was fortunate then and still am today to have the means to partake in such events. But, others are not as fortunate. Nearly 21,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities, and more than 6,000 "Young Athletes" are able to participate in year-round sports training and competition at no cost to their families because of the funds raised through Special Olympics. Every dollar raised helps support this worthy cause.

Thank you again for visiting my Polar Plunge fundraising page and thank you for your donation. They say anyone with a little guts and a warm heart can take the Plunge. I'm not crazy, I'm just one of those folk and  I’m “Freezin’ for a Reason”!

Peace to all,
