Runner Story: Hey friends, I'm Courtney! I have been a runner for over 20 (gasp!) years now and it's one of my favorite things to do. From high school cross-country races to Turkey Trots and eventually a marathon, my relationship with the sport has evolved a lot over the course of my life. No matter what was happening, though, running was and continues to be one of the most constant companions I've had. Running for me is a moving meditation and the place I find most of my serenity...SO, by that logic, I should be super-ZEN after running 150 plus miles next year! Get ready...
My personal connection to MS is through my younger brother, Mike, who was diagnosed in January of 2015 (that's us in the picture, at this year's MS Gala in Denver.) Though this particular diagnosis is still very new, it has opened my eyes to how many people, families, and lives it actually effects. To that end, I am also running a 1/2 marathon on October 18th in Denver with some MS fundraising efforts to back me up, and I can't wait to carry that energy into the 2016 Relay!!
I don't pretend to know what my brother is going through, or how this huge change in his life has affected him, so I won't attempt to tell his story. What I DO know is that he is handling this like a champion- inspiring me to do the same with MY story.
I can run 150 miles for my own spirit, for the people I love, and for the people who are affected by this disease. I can run with a renewed sense of purpose.
I have so much HOPE already based on the outpouring of love and support I've seen in my local community, and I know this is only the beginning!
THANK YOU for being a part of a worthwhile cause, and also for carrying me along my journey!! With movement we can affect CHANGE.
