2/26/12 Says Andre-" My friend Trooper is healing up so well! We both appreciate all of the donations that have come from generous people who want to help us. We were abused by humans, but some humans are good, caring people. "Thank you for your generosity.

2/26/12 Andre had a picnic today. Over 100 people came to pay tribute to Andre and all he has been through. He was wonderful. He loves attention.

We had other dogs who are up for adoption at the event and we possibly have a few more adoptions. View pictures at

2/20/12 Andre got a great write-up in the Arizona Republic today.

Thank you again for all of you who care about and have contributed to help save Andre and other abused dogs. See you at the picnic on February 26th at 11 AM at Scottsdale Ranch Park. RSVP

2/12/12 Here is a picture of Andre napping in the sun at his new home. He is so lucky to be loved. Most abused animals do not enjoy this happy outcome.
2/11/12 We have more information on the circumstances that Andre was found under.
I had to write to the county for the records and they arrived today. Susy called the man who found Andre in the plastic bag. The story is worse than we thought.
Apparently a kind gentleman was walking at the 10200 block of West Hess St in Phoenix on January 6, saw a car slow down, and a bag was tossed into an empty lot out of the window of the car.
The gentleman noted that the bag was moving, opened the bag, and found Andre with severely injured eyes. He called Animal Control and the police.
Andre was picked up by the Animal Control field officer who thought the injuries were so severe that euthanization was appropriate.
Linda Soto of MCACC west was present when Andre was brought into the shelter. She gave him some food and he ate it hungrily. He was noted to be dehydrated but he could walk.
They decided to give him a chance.
The eyes were so badly injured that they required removal on January 12th.
We saw the plea from Duanne for Andre on January 19th and Phyllis picked him up on Jan 20th.

The support for Andre, the love that has been showered on him, and the outcry against his perpetrator has convinced me that our society will not tolerate animal abuse any longer.
We are offering a $3000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator of this crime. PETA has offered $1000, Animal Guardian Network has offered $1000, and Feathers Foundation is offering $1000. We have a firstgiving site for donation of additional funds to add to the reward.

2/11/12 Andre was adopted today by a wonderful couple who will shower him with love. Meet Andre and his adopters at our "Picnic with Andre" on February 26th. Scottsdale Ranch Park at 11 AM. There will be pizza and refreshments.

2/10/12 Andre had a very successful dinner last night with his admirers. Andre received hugs and kisses from so many people. He loved it.

It is so heartwarming to realize that we as a society will not tolerate violence against animals like Andre who do not know why they are being tortured.

Please log onto our firstgiving page for Trooper, a sharpei mix dog who had a collar embedded in his neck for years. He is at the vet's office today. Go to and type in Trooper-neglected dog in the search box.

Despite Trooper's injuries he is a happy boy who is glad to be alive.

2/9/12 Andre is having another party on February 26th! Picnic with Andre at Scottsdale Ranch Park, 10400 E. Via Linda, Scottsdale. 11 AM. Bring children and dogs on leashes. RSVP to 480-860-9456 or

Funds raised beyond what we need for Andre will be used to rescue and treat other abused and abandoned dogs. We rescued "Trooper" today, a dog who was turned into the county shelter with an embedded collar in his neck and a huge abcess on the side of his face. He will need extensive veterinary care. Go to

Andre is doing very well, he loves his bed, his toys, and anyone who wants to say hello. He is adjusting to depending on smell and hearing instead of sight. He can even use the doggy door. He sits when his food is being prepared.

2/1-Andre seems perkier to everyone who seems him . He had a few visitors including Bucky a 3 legged chihuahua that spent the day with him. They got along perfectly and he seemed to enjoy the furry company. Andre is heading to the vet tomorrow to check out where his eyes were because they still seem infected.

"Andre the rescue dog" has his  own facebook for updates pictures

Andre is in Sedona tonight. Lucky Andre. Susy, Andre's foster Mom, took him with her so that he can eat every 2 hours.

He is reportedly enjoying the smells in Sedona.

12/26/12 PETA has posted a $1000 reward for information on Andre's abuser.

Group Joins Phoenix Police Department in Effort to Bring Animal Abuser to Justice

Phoenix — A small puppy, Andre, was discovered tied up inside a plastic bag and nearly dead of starvation in an empty lot northeast of 67th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road about two weeks ago. His eyes were gouged out, and apparently he had been used for target practice with a BB gun. "He must have been in so much pain. His eyes were hanging out of his head," says Susie Hopkins, Andre's foster caretaker. "He's been so neglected and abused." Police have yet to make any arrests in connection with Andre's torture. That's why PETA is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this violent crime.

Would you please consider sharing this information with your audience? It might be the only way to apprehend those responsible for this heinous act.

"Animal abusers are cowards," says PETA Director Martin Mersereau. "They take their issues out on the most defenseless beings available to them. Phoenix residents have good reason to be concerned. According to law-enforcement agencies and leading mental-health professionals, perpetrators of violent acts against animals are often repeat offenders who pose a serious threat to all animals—including humans."

Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to contact the Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-6151.
