Many thanks to the 40 people who joined the Marrow Registry
at my Registration Drive on Feb. 18, 2014 &
 Online in Feb. 2014.

BACKGROUND:  My name is Deena Alansky, and I lost my brother, Rand E. Alansky, to leukemia on February 18, 2004. (That's his U.S. Air Force picture on your right.) He was only 45 years old when he died and was my only sibling. A bone marrow transplant was his last hope of survival, but no match could be found. I was tested, and my tissue type was not a match. (Siblings have only a 25% chance of matching!) And there was NO MATCHING DONOR for my brother in any of the world's marrow registries! Not one. Since that time, I have made it my mission in life to educate my family and friends about the National Marrow Donor Program. I've been in the registry myself since Dec. 2003.

DELETE BLOOD CANCER:  Delete Blood Cancer is a nonprofit organization that leads the fight to delete blood cancer by empowering people to take action, give bone marrow (or blood stem cells) and save lives. With over 3 million registered bone marrow donors worldwide, Delete Blood Cancer is part of the world's largest bone marrow donor center. They also sponsor and assist individuals like ME to organize their own bone marrow drives across the country.

FUNDRAISING:  It costs Delete Blood Cancer $65 to add each new person to the National Bone Marrow Registry, but they continue to offer this service FREE to the public. How amazing is that? I am raising money help ensure that Delete Blood Cancer can continue in its noble mission of adding new volunteer donors to the National Bone Marrow Registry.

DONATIONS:  Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to Delete Blood Cancer by clicking the red "Give Now" button near the top of this page. You can donate from anywhere in the world. It's simple, fast and totally secure. And it's also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. Thanks for your support.

PITTSBURGH MARROW DRIVE:  With the help of Delete Blood Cancer and a small group of dedicated volunteers, I held a Bone Marrow Registration Drive in Pittsburgh, PA on Tuesay, February 18, 2014. That day was the 10th Anniversary of my brother's death from leukemia, and I wanted to do SOMETHING SPECIAL to honor his memory on that exact day. The drive was held at Fox &  Hound at Northway Mall, and 39 people joined the Marrow Registry that day, plus another friend joined online a few days later bringing the "real" total up to 40. MANY THANKS to all who joined. You might go on to save a life someday. You are all REAL LIFE SUPERHEROS in my book!

JOIN THE MARROW REGISTRY FOR FREE ONLINE! People can join the marrow registry for FREE ONLINE at Joining is easy, but it's a serious commitment. To join, simply fill out the registration form online. You'll receive the cheek swab testing kit in the mail. Swab your cheek at home, and mail back the kit. Badda bing. Badda boom. You'll be in the registry, and someday you might truly help save a life.

COMMITMENT:  It's easy to join the Marrow Registry, but it's a serious commitment. You'll become part of a world-wide network of volunteers with the potential to save a life if you ever get called as a matching donor. We only want dedicated, committed people to join.

ELIGIBILITY:  Anyone in general good health between the ages of 18-55 can register and join for FREE! If you can't join due to age or health restrictions, you can still help by SPREADING THE WORD about the Marrow Registry. People can't join if they don't know it exists. Help spread the word, and you'll be helping to save lives. Thank you.
