Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for Against the Tide to benefit the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition. The money raised at this event supports the MBCC's work of organizing and coordinating diverse efforts to prevent, combat and ultimately cure breast cancer. The MBCC supports research studying associations between breast cancer and the environment, specifically carcinogens that may be present in the many common chemicals that we are exposed to on a daily basis. Although there has been much discussion at the local and national level about environmental links to cancer, little funding has been available to support scientific studies.
In the past year, the disease of breast cancer has continued to affect the lives of many friends and colleagues, and I feel committed to joining MBCC's fundraising event again this year. I feel very proud to have raised a total of over $68,000 for breast cancer prevention research in my previous sixteen events, and this year I am setting a personal fundraising goal of $6,000. It is an ambitious goal, but I am confident that my large network of supporters can help me reach this goal.
If the stars align with perfect weather, perfect health and perfect logistics, my goal this year is to bike the 25-mile route to AND from Hopkinton and to swim the 1-mile open water loop in between. Whatever the day brings, I will promise to honor your contributions to Against the Tide by pushing myself hard on the event day, and making up the rest of my commitment with many miles of pool laps and bicycle commutes during the month of June and beyond.
I participate in Against the Tide in honor of the dozens of women in my life who are courageous breast cancer survivors – women that I know from childhood, from college, from work, and from my neighborhood. I am hoping that the research that is funded by the MBCC in Massachusetts will improve the lives of women everywhere.
Thanks so much for your support, and for joining me in the fight against the breast cancer epidemic.
