Wayne Funky-tut Wilden's Page
Thank you for taking the time to click on this link.
My name is Wayne Wilden (some people know me as "Funky-tut") but anyway . . .
What I would like to talk about is a horrible degenerative brain disease that a lot of people have never heard of: Huntington's Disease.
The fight against Huntington's Disease is very personal for me.
Huntington's Disease is a purely genetic disease with a 50/50 chance of being passed down to the next generation and, alas, it runs in my family. In my experience, HD combines the worst of Alzheimer's Disease with the loss of physical control associated with Parkinson's Disease, along with a heavy dose of paranoia, depression and Obsessive-Compulsive behavior.
I watched Huntington's take my mother's emotional, physical and mental health away from her bit by bit over a very long time. HD robbed her of her consciousness and ultimately her life, two years ago. Ironically. my mother could be called "lucky" as her symptoms did not develop until very late in her life. Most people with Huntington's are struck down in their mid 30's-40's.
Although I carry the gene for Huntington's, I too, am fortunate - as have been told I will not likely develop symptoms until very late in my life, if ever.
Anyway, it would mean a lot to me, if you have any "extra funds" please make a small donation for the RUN TO CURE HD. Many good friends supported me when I ran the Chicago Marathon to benefit the AIDS Foundation, back on October 8. (I DID IT, in SEVEN HOURS !!!) I feel hestitant to ask for help again so soon, and this race is much smaller (only 5K and local, Houston) but this cause is even more personal for me.
Any donation: however small will help.
A reminder: donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate, too!
