On May 18, 2008, I will be running the Cleveland marathon. This will be my third marathon as I continue towards my ultimate goal of qualifying for the Boston Marathon. I have decided to not just run for myself but to also run in order to raise money for a good cause. I am excited to be Running for Autism.
Why Run for Autism?
*To raise money for autism research - more than 87 cents of every dollar raised will directly fund research studies that help answer some of autism's most pressing questions. I want to make a difference in the lives of families living with autism.
What is Autism?
*Autism is a neurological disorder that affects a person's ability to communicate and interact socially. There is no known cure, and it remains a lifelong challenge.
*Autism is more prevalent than Down Syndrome, childhood diabetes and childhood cancer combined.
*Autism is estimated to occur in as many as 1 in 150 births and affect 1.7 million children and adults in the U.S. today.
*Autism research is needed to find answers and provide practical solutions for those with autism today.
