Denny's Challenge 5k, a Miles for Melanoma

Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer, and one of the deadliest of all cancers. In November of 2009, I found out that I had it. In the months following, I had cancerous lymph nodes removed, I was diagnosed with stage 3c Melanoma and had to go through a year of treatment.

We learned that my cancer had an 80% chance to come back and I had a 27% chance to live 10 more years.  I'll never forget the words  “That’s all we have for Melanoma at this point. " That's what we heard from our oncologist when speaking about the treatment I would be going through.

I know cancer as a whole is still a lion in the medical field that billions of people worldwide are trying to tackle.  But within that lion is Melanoma, which is a deadly bear on its own. The casual attitude with which millions approach protecting their own skin is scary. Even from people who know my story.

Melanoma research really hits home in the Norton household to say the least and I know it effects and has affected millions of others.  This is just a small way we can all chip in and help out (Check out
