That's me (in the solar blanket turned cape [if you are reading this on a mobile device, scroll down]) right after finishing the Chicago Marathon in October. It was my first time running in a marathon and I wanted to see if I could complete the training and reach the finish line. In short, I ran it for me.
This time, I'm running for them (Ezekiel and Poppy) and for all Brookline Public School children. On Monday, April 17, I'll be running in the 2017 Boston Marathon, as part of Team Brookline! The proceeds from my fundraising will go to support the Brookline Education Foundation (BEF), a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving Brookline's commitment to excellence in public education. The BEF raises private funds to support innovative teaching, administrative leadership, professional development, and community participation in schools.
Two central aspects of my past motivate my support for the BEF. First, I am a product of the Brookline Public Schools. I cherish how teachers and administrators carefully constructed an environment in which my classmates and I developed as critical and creative thinkers, and became public citizens. This tradition of excellence in teaching continues. I am proud to have my children enrolled at the Runkle School and am continually inspired by the daily efforts, thought, and creativity of their teachers. To observe dedicated teachers at work is to see how teaching is a marathon.
But my experience as an educator and school administrator also deeply informs my support for the BEF. Professional development and the creation of opportunities for innovation and reflective practice are crucial for succesful educational outcomes. Brookline Public School teachers are one of our community's greatest resources; our support for the BEF nurtures teachers and sustains their success.
I've set an ambitious goal of raising at least $10,000 for the BEF. Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your generosity -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
