TeamJOA's 2012 JettRide
John Owen’s Adventure (JOA), a non-profit dedicated to raising research dollars and awareness for the genetic illness, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (Duchenne).
Team JOA is made up of a group of day riders including family members and friends riding for a group of boys affected by Duchenne (Charlie Glazer, John Owen Dumm, RJ Sullivan and Jack Wolf) near North Royalton Ohio.
Team JOA is excited to welcome Jett Riders to their home town of North Royalton, OH on 7/20/12. We expect a big crowd as we celebrate the efforts of these amazing athletes at our Welcome Jett Rider's Cook Out Friday night. The City of North Royalton will be cheer the team out of the city Saturday morning, 7/21/12 which will include a Police escort!
Congratulations to this fine group of kids that are spending their summer riding to derail Duchenne! We can't wait to welcome you!
JOA was formed by Tony and Jen Dumm of North Royalton, OH and is named after their 8-year-old son John Owen who battles Duchenne. All proceeds are donated to the MDA and Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, both of which work tirelessly to find a cure for Duchenne.
In JOA’s commitment to finding a cure for the thousands of boys suffering from Duchenne, the organization hosts an annual Picnic in the Park, attracting thousands of families and hosts several smaller fundraisers throughout the year.
Duchenne progressively wastes muscle and causes muscle weakness mainly in boys. It begins with microscopic changes in the muscle. As muscles degenerate over time, the boy's muscle strength diminishes. With Duchenne, ultimately the heart muscle will stop working. Typically diagnosed between four to seven years, the seemingly ‘normal’ boy will show signs of weakness getting up from the floor and walking up stairs. Duchenne robs his ability to walk, breathe and thrive. JOA is determined to derail this muscle killer. For more information on JOA visit www.joainc.org.
