Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
BFC was born at the USCAP meeting in 2010 and since then has raised money for breast cancer patients and their families at multiple events like the one being hosted in Baltimore in tandem with the 2013 annual meeting of USCAP. The idea for Bold for the Cure began when one pathologist attending the 2010 USCAP encountered a colleague – bald from the effects of chemotherapy to treat breast cancer diagnosed at age 35 – and said “You look beautiful.” Her reply “I’d take that more seriously if you were bald too, when you say that,” took him by surprise. The two sentence conversation lead to table talk amongst several pathologists dining together that night – and Bold for the Cure was born.
To coincide with the 2013 meeting, Bold for the Cure is holding a Salon Event March 3, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Dakota Salon in Columbia, MD. The USCAP pathology community is well represented among shavees from previous Bold for the Cure events and includes Joel Greenson (Council) and his wife Jann Wesolek (a couples shave!), Fred Silva (previous EVP), Kisha Mitchell (BFC President), Henry Appelman (former USCAP President), Jon McHugh (rising head and neck superstar), and me.
Salon events provide an opportunity for pathologists and other people concerned about or affected by breast cancer to show their concern and support. Salon events raise money for local breast cancer charities in the cities in which they are held while also publicizing the role of pathologists – coming out from behind the microscope. Transportation will be provided from the USCAP meeting to the event.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. This is a powerful and unique opportunity for members of the pathology community, their friends and family to make a statement on the value of being present for those we serve.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
