Hello Family and Friends!
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndrome) is a bone marrow failure disease that produces ineffective red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelet cells which in turn cause anemia, infections, and bleeding. The only way to cure this disease is through a bone marrow transplant. There have been many new drugs developed over the past 10 years to help slow the progresssion of MDS.
I have been battling MDS for 9 years now. It has been an incredible journey that has taken me through clinical trials, supportive medication therapy, and blood transfusions. Through all those years I have had the love, support, and prayers from all of you to keep fighting. I am so blessed to have you all!
Throughout my journey, I never gave up hope and I am so fortunate to now have been on a chemotherapy drug (Revlimid) for 2 years that has removed my dependency for blood transfusions! Although this wonderful drug has not cured my disease, it has allowed me to live a normal life and enjoy my family and friends. However, this does not mean I have stopped fighting!
As you can see by the photo on this page (Theresa, Olivia, Rachel and I)celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary in Maui, Nov 2008), I am a very fortunate man! However, my journey has taught me that there are so many others that are not so fortunate and are still fighting everyday to beat MDS and Aplastic Anemia.
This is my chance, and yours, to help continue this important fight and bring hope to those who continue the difficult battle against MDS and Aplastic Anemia.
I know we are all in tough economic times, but please donate what you can and I also invite you to join "Team Martinez" on January 16th at the Hopes Steps and a Cure Walk at California State University, Dominguez Hills to support this important cause!
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
Thank you all!
