This year is the 50th anniversary of the founding of Point Reyes National Seashore, yet another shining example of “America’s Best Idea.” To recognize and honor this milestone, I have pledged to walk the 154 miles of trails within the Seashore over the course of the 2012 calendar year, one step at a time.
The goals of this personal challenge are not only to recognize and acknowledge the natural values of the Seashore, to nourish my personal health and enjoyment, but also to raise funds for Point Reyes National Seashore Association (PRNSA), an organization that provides financial support to a wide variety of Seashore activities—habitat restoration, protection threatened species, biological research, trail maintenance, and an array of educational programs.
I’m hoping that you will contribute to this “trails challenge,” by sponsoring me for each mile walked. If this appeals to you, here is what I’m asking: Pledge some amount per mile— a dime, a dollar or more ($5, $10 . . . or as much as you like!). All proceeds will go directly to PRNSA to support their ongoing conservation efforts, but anyone who pledges a dollar (or more) per mile will receive a membership to PRNSA and a signed and personally inscribed copy of the latest edition of my book “The Natural History of the Point Reyes Peninsula” (2008).
Below are some suggested donation amounts. Thank you for your interest in my journey and for considering supporting this important cause.
$.10/mile = $15.40
$.25/mile = $38.50
$.50/mile = $77
$1.00/mile = $154 *this level and higher includes a signed copy of my book
$2.00/mile = $308
$5.00/mile = $770
$10.00/mile = $1,540
$25.00/mile = $3,850
