Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.

Why raise funds on behalf of the National Blood Clot Alliance? Because to me, it's a cause very near & dear to my heart. My life changed in April 2008 when at age 21 I was diagnosed with Deep Vein Thrombosis, a dangerous blood clot which extended up the length of my left leg.

Many people have the misconception that something like a blood clot only happens to the elderly, sick, or injured. It's not true!   As many as 900,000 American suffer from DVT/PE every year (Mayo Clinic Data, 2005). While some of these people do have genetic predispositions or conditions that make them more susceptible to a clot, many things we ALL do (unknowingly) on a daily basis can also make us more vulnerable. Take me for instance ... my blood clot was ultimately attributed to a long plane flight combined with birth control pills.  Women reading this: not an uncommon situation, is it? Are you at risk?

While the DVT diagnosis & corresponding recovery was by no means an easy one, I'm incredibly grateful that my blood clot was caught & treated at the early stage it was. All too often these dangerous clots break lose from the limbs in which they form & travel to the lungs: a move which can cause Pulmonary Embolism (PE) or even result in death.

By supporting the National Blood Clot Alliance and their mission to “Stop the Clot”,  you can help others ensure they enjoy the same outcome I did: one of early detection, treatment, and recovery. I’m lucky to be a living example of what good can come from the efforts of an organization such as NBCA and hope you will help us in ensuring my story of "life after a clot"  is one which is read more often. With education about signs, symptoms, risk factors, proper treatment, and methods of prevention, we can make a real difference.

Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
