RUNNING THE DESERT FOR MY FURRY FRIENDS
I am combining my passion for adventure, sport and animals and undertaking " the toughest footrace on earth", The Marathon Des Sables. On March 27th, 2009 I will begin a 150 mile self-supported stage run through the Sahara Desert in Morocco. I will carry all of my supplies ( food, clothing, gear) for the entire week in my backpack while enduring extreme conditions of heat and rugged terrain. Daily water rations and an open ended berber tent are the only items supplied by the race organization.
I am racing to raise awareness for the Jacksonville Humane Society which lost most of it's buildings and animals in a devasting fire two years ago . They are in the process of rebuilding a multi-use facility with an even stronger commitment to the care and adoption of pets. I have funded my trip 100%. All donations go directly to the Jacksonville Humane Society and any amount is greatly appreciated! A sample of some of the costs are as follows:
- heartworm testing
- leash and collar
- large Kong dog toy
- 5 tricky treat balls to provide mental stimulation for cat
- initial medical check up
- 10 litter pans
- Kong stuffing treats for one week
- bloodwork on one sick animal
- Surgical repair of one orthopedic injury
- heartworm treatment for one large dog
I urge you to become a part of this great adventure by visiting the race website . http://www.darbaroud.com/index_uk.php Here you can receive race details and daily updates. More importantly you can use the link to send daily encouraging emails to help me reach my goal. These will be distributed nightly at camp. My race number is 819. Please visit the Jacksonville Humane Society website to follow their future plans.

Thank you for supporting me and the abandonned and abused animals of Jacksonville.
