FROM IGNORANCE, OPPORTUNITY:
THE HISTORY OF WEST HOUSE
Time and again, the staff of AIDS Resource were unable to place HIV/AIDS patients at assisted living facilities (also known as personal care homes). Owing to the ignorance and stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS, personal care homes were unwilling to open their doors to those most in need. Years of discrimination against HIV/AIDS patients culminated in AIDS Resource filing a complaint with the PA Department of Public Welfare and the federal Office of Civil Rights and the Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity.
Determined to ensure that no HIV+ person will again face the life-threatening fear and discrimination that persists in some pockets of our community, AIDS Resource found an innovative solution.
WEST HOUSE is a non-profit, fully-licensed 18-bed personal care home with the mission of creating a homelike environment dedicated to enriching quality of life and upholding personal dignity by providing compassionate resident-centered care. West House is the perfect alternative to nursing home care for those individuals who are not completely independent but in need of some additional assistance
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
