Larry Kelley - MS Run the US - 2014 Relay Runner

What: The MS Run the US – 2014 Relay is a 3,000-mile relay run across America to help raise awareness and funds to help CURE multiple sclerosis (MS)! The Relay begins April 13th, 2014 in Los Angeles, CA and is completed August 17th, 2014 in New York, NY. Sixteen (16) runners have been selected to individually run on average 170 miles over 6 consecutive days during their assigned segment. Each runner dedicates a week of running on the road with the Relay, while collectively the event spans a distance and duration of 3,000-miles run in 4 months.

Overview:  I have been active in raising awareness about MS for the past 10 years. Nearly everyone of us has a friend or family member with this horrible disease. I suffered from Rheumatic Fever as a kid and learned first hand what was like to not be able to move.  Fortunately, I outgrew the disease and now I am a single dad of 3 who found my love of running on the trails in eastern Nebraska.  In the past year, I have completed a dozen ultras including my first 100 miler, but my 310mile segment of the 2103 MS relay team was the highlight of my life.  I am a proud veteran of the US Army who served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm and routinely rock the Team RWB Eagle.  I am an Application Systems Engineer at Wells Fargo and served as the WF bike captain for 8 years in Des Moines raising over $60,000 for MS research.

Location: Rayland,OH.  Currently living in Nevada,IA

Segment: 9 Wray, CO to Holdrege, NE  June 6-11. My plan is to run 50K/day for 5 days and finish with a strong half marathon on day 6.

Runner Story: I had so much fun running on the 2013 relay team and  very honored to be asked back for the 2014 MS Run the US team!
