Thank you for visiting my fundraising page and for your interest in my running the 2011 Howl at the Moon 8-hour timed ultramarathon to raise money for Literacy DuPage!
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Why am I doing this? To see how far I can push my level of endurance and learn more about what I am capable of undertaking. It is a survival test. In much the same way, the students of Literacy DuPage undertake the same objective, only they do so for a greater reason...to provide for themselves and their families. In order to fully function in a society, individuals need to understand the language to be independent. Without these skills, they often are not able to obtain the services needed to provide for their families. Raising awareness and funds to help more people obtain these services just makes good sense to me.
Who is Literacy DuPage and what does it do? Established in 1972, Literacy DuPage, formerly known as Literacy Volunteers of DuPage, is a nonprofit, community-based organization. The organization serves over 30 communities in DuPage County.Literacy DuPage is a provider of accessible and customized tutoring in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English to help adults achieve independence. Tutoring occurs in one-on-one or small group settings at a mutually convenient time and location for both tutors and students. Materials and techniques are provided to allow the tutor to guide the learner toward achievement of personal goals. Tutors incorporate everyday materials such as a newspaper, map, or job application into their lessons. By providing English literacy skills to those who do not otherwise have public access to such learning, Literacy DuPage will help literally change the lives of adult learners and impact their families and future generations. We know that if we teach a parent...we reach a child! Please help me in supporting this very worthwhile cause.
Howl at the Moon will be fun, exciting, and emotionally charged. The race is 8-hours in duration and the objective is to log as many miles as possible during that period. It is my first ultramarathon (any distance beyond 26.2 miles) and will truly be a test of my endurance.
Please join with me as I try to raise $2,000 for Literacy DuPage by making a donation. As a member of the Board of Directors for Literacy DuPage, I truly believe in the good this organization provides to its communities. To donate, click the "Sponsor Us Now" button at either the top or bottom of this page, and assist in my efforts to help this worthwhile organization. Corporate matching gifts are also very much appreciated.
Many thanks for your support. If you could distribute this to as many people as possible, I would be grateful. Feel free to post this link on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, a blog, forward in e-mail, and distribute in any way you want -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
