My Dear Friends and Family,
I am writing to once again ask for your help.
This year in August, I will celebrate my 6 year anniversary of a life changing decision to undergo a bilateral mastectomy to improve my chances of living a long and healthy life and to put to rest the unwelcomed visitor named breast cancer that had interrupted my life not once, but twice within a year's time.
It has been an incredible journey since that day. I could never have predicted being so sick from a very serious infection that set me back for nearly a year or the treatments and surgeries that would follow. Even today I realize with every new change in my body that it could all come back uninvited. Yet I feel so grateful and lucky each day that I wake up. I try to block out the worry that we all face in survivorship and live each day to the best of my ability. I don't take so many things for granted and if someone is in need, I try to help if I can. I firmly believe in paying it forward and I am keenly aware of all of those who have it so much worse than me.
As many of you know, Support Connection is the organization that was so helpful to me in my time of need. This year alone, I have referred four of my friends and co-workers to them to obtain information and advice. Therefore, I am asking you to join my efforts to keep Support Connection a vital part of our community by making a donation of any size to my page or perhaps joining my team and walking with me on Oct. 4th to help raise awareness.
For those of you who are unaware of this wonderful and helpful resource, Support Connection is located in Yorktown Heights and provides free, confidential services on a local and national level. They need our help to continue. My team name is WE ARE FAMILY because I believe we are all in this together to support each other in times of need. This year I am dedicating my walk to a very brave young woman named Shannon. She has a beautiful one year old daughter and is only 31 years old. Shannon needs all of our help and positive thoughts and prayers as she was first diagnosed during her pregnancy and is now challenged by a recurrence. Even if you can't participate with me, please keep Shannon in your thoughts.
I love you to the moon!
