Hi, I'm Melanie!
I am so excited (and beyond terrified) to have this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to run the Boston Marathon (Boston!) and raise money for such an amazing cause -- The Home For Little Wanderers.
I’m a mom of three -- almost seven and almost four year old girls, and a baby boy who turns one in May. So life is anything but boring.
As a mom of three lucky kids, I’m thrilled to raise money for the Home for Little Wanderers. An amazing Boston-based organization whose mission is to "ensure the healthy behavioral, emotional, social and educational development and physical well-being of children and families living in at-risk circumstances," the Home supports and strengthens vulnerable families and works to keep children safe in their own communities through various programs, from behavioral health and adoption/foster care services, to sending kids to summer camps or making sure they have a gift to open at Christmas.
And of course, this is extra special because it’s the Boston Marathon. In 2013, as the then-Director of Communications for Dr. Jill Biden, Second Lady of the United States, I sat across from this avid runner as she signed a pair of her running shoes to leave at the memorial site. My husband grew up in Boston. And I get to run this 26.2 with one of my very favorite people, Erin Celello, another mother runner and writer friend since what feels like forever.
So, big thanks are in order to The Home for Little Wanderers for this opportunity, to Erin for egging me on to do this craziness, and to our families for helping us have the time to do the long runs over the next two months. Most of all, thanks to each and every one of you for any financial support you might be able to give to The Home and the children and families it serves. More than 80% of The Home's funding goes directly to programming, too, so you can rest easy knowing your donation will go toward helping the kids and families who need it most.
Thank you! Stay tuned for updates!
