My name is Corporal Mervin Roxas and I am a Filipino American Marine Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) veteran. I served in the 3rd Battalion/7th Marines and earned the military rank of Corporal. My military occupational specialty was infantry. While serving in Iraq, I was wounded by an IED, suffering injuries to my face and losing my left arm. Following my honorable discharge, the military awarded me the Purple Heart. Despite my disability, I managed to stay positive about the situation, and learned to live without my arm. I am currently pursuing a History degree at Cal State Fullerton, with the goal of becoming a teacher. I have no regrets and would do it all over again to serve my country. I am running the marathon to show the importance of organizations like U.S. VETS as they help veterans get back on their feet and move forward with their lives.
Please help me raise money to support veterans.
If you want to send me messages of encouragement prior to the race, you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
