Dearest family and friends,
Happy new year! I hope everyone has enjoyed 2012 so far :)
I am, once again, participating in the Polar Plunge event here in Bloomington. This will be my last semester at ISU so I am trying to focus on making memories and doing great things for this community while I can.
As most of you know, the Polar Plunge is a fundraising event for the Special Olympics of Illinois. This organization provides opportunities for growth and development through sports, for individuals with intellectual disabilities. What an awesome concept! This event is a way for people to show their support by willingly plunging into freezing cold water in the middle of winter ... And let me tell you, it is FREEZING cold!! For me, the event serves as a reminder of how blessed I am to be a healthy and fully functioning person. I feel very grateful to have grown up with loved ones who have intellectual disabilities. It has allowed me to see the effects first hand, and to serve as a care taker. These experiences have shaped me into the person I am today.
I am excited to be ESA's team captain again this year and I have high hopes for our team's success! We have a lot of new and wonderful girls this year who are looking forward to participating. I sincerely hope that this tradition I started in ESA will be something that continues on after I graduate.
Any support that you can offer would be extremely appreciated. As always, I feel hugely blessed to have generous friends and family members who support my big dreams. It means so much to me! Feel free to forward this page to anyone who you think may want to donate.
