Thank you for your interest in blueEnergy!
I'm running the Avenue of the Giants Marathon on May 6th, and will be running on behalf of one of my favorite non-profits - blueEnergy. My goal is to raise $2,620 in one month, which is $100 per mile (yes that's a 26.2 mile race!). blueEnergy and I would really appreciate any support you feel you can provide - just remember no amount is too small!
My time at blueEnergy:
I had the opportunity to travel to Nicaragua and volunteer with blueEnergy for 2 months in 2009, and learned first-hand how amazing this organization is. blueEnergy works primarily on the Carribbean Coast of Nicaragua, where the majority of communities are isolated and do not have access to the local electric grid or clean water. Most families have no access to electricity, while those who can afford to rely on diesel generators which are both dirty and expensive. blueEnergy provides clean energy and clean water, based on the idea that these are basic necessities for living a healthy, productive life, and for improving the economic opportunities of these communities. I was fortunate enough to visit one of the benefitting communities, Monkey Point, where I interviewed families with solar systems and water filtration systems to see how these amenities had impacted their lives. It was great to hear first-hand how happy people were to have access to light and clean water, and how that had improved their abilities to pursue education and create small businesses, and reduced the frequency of common sicknesses.
More about blueEnergy:
blueEnergy works to ensure that even the most isolated poor get the energy, clean water and sanitation they need to live a healthy, productive life. blueEnergy goes where others don't and works with local communities to deliver these basic services over time because of a deeply held belief that everyone deserves a shot at improving their own life regardless of how they faired in the lottery of birth. blueEnergy’s model is to adapt appropriate technologies to the local context while emphasizing deep community engagement, local capacity building and working through partnerships at the international, national and local levels. This approach helps create impact today in some of the hardest to reach places while laying the foundation for long-term, systemic change tomorrow.
Through engagement with this work blueEnergy develops global leaders that live our values and work for a more equitable, sustainable world – greatly amplifying our impact.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and please forward this to anyone who you think might want to support blueEnergy too!
