Ease the Wait for Children in Pain

If you think time in a doctor’s waiting room is a painful experience under the best of circumstances, imagine what it would be like to wait to see a doctor when your child is experiencing severe pain. With your support, the Pain Medicine Waiting Room will ease the stress of this experience for children and families.

Chronic pain affects at least 15 percent of all children. Nearly 40 percent of children and adolescents complain of pain that occurs at least once a week. At Children’s National Medical Center, our goal is to make the waiting room in our pain clinic as comfortable as possible for children and their families, while allowing our doctors to collect valuable information about children’s progress before they ever step into an exam room.

Children’s National is working on a new technology that will make the waiting process easier for patients and their families, including interactive technology, from game consoles to computers and touch screens.

Your donation will develop the software needed to create a truly interactive environment for children. The technology will educate patients and their families about pain treatments. It will also help providers give the best possible care for every child!

This project is part of a new crowdfunding initiative to support research at Children’s National Medical Center, one of the world’s leading children’s hospitals and pediatric research centers. Crowdfunding is an increasingly popular way for people to support causes and projects they care about through online giving. People are able to make small or large donations to support projects like the one featured on this page.

Children’s National Medical Center does not guarantee or warrant actual outcomes for this project. The results of any research project may turn out to be unfeasible or no longer desirable because of unexpected issues. If for any reason the project cannot continue as planned—or if the project raises more than its established fundraising goal—Children’s National will make every attempt to apply the funds to support an initiative with a similar purpose to benefit a similar target audience. If it is not possible to reassign resources to a similar initiative, Children’s National will determine the most appropriate manner to use the funds raised.
