I am very excited about the upcoming Alpha-1 5K Hero Walk!! It seems like we have been planning this event forever and now there is less than 1 week to go!  I am almost to my goal of $1,000 and I hope you will consider making a donation.

Thank you for visiting my Personal Fundraising Page. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to our fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support-- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!

I am trying to raise $1000 in order to help find a cure for Alpha-1. I am going to participate in the Alpha-1 5K "Hero" Walk on April 9, 2011. I would like to tell you about the two heroes in my family:

Two of my sons were born with Alpha-1 Antitrypsen Deficiency. Joey was diagnosed when he was about 1 month old. He did really well until he was 8 years old and we had to put him on the waiting list for a liver transplant. When he was 10, he received a life saving transplant. The first two years were full of ups and downs but since then he has done wonderfully! He is now a graduate student in New York and we are very proud of him.

Zac was diagnosed shortly after birth. Even though he has not gotten sick like his brother, his health is being followed by a pediatric gastroenterologist. As he gets older, he will be seen by a pulmonologist because Alpha-1 can affect the lungs as well as the liver. We have tried to make sure he takes care of his liver and lungs by eating nutritiously, exercising and avoiding smoke and other pollutants. He is well aware of his condition and yet faces life with a smile on his face and a determination to live a healthy life.

Since I have gotten involved in the Alpha1 Association and Foundation, I have met many alpha "heroes" who struggle with health issues related to alpha-1. I have seen many children and adults suffer though transplant and I have talked to parents who have lost a child to alpha-1. I have also watched many friends in the alpha-1 community leave this world too soon. I hope and pray that you will join me in my mission to find a cure for Alpha-1!
Thank you and God Bless,
