My name is Serena and in December 2013 I was diagnosed with a rare and often fatal disease called Idiopathic Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. Specialists do not know what caused this disease, and there is currently no cure. Treatment options can help manage the symptoms, but the disease is progressive. On average, people live 7 years with my condition with treatment and 3 years without treatment. However, more and more treatments to help improve quality of life have been introduced in the past several years. Hope is on the way, but more needs to be done to stop this devastating disease.
Many people are diagnosed too late because PH is an invisible illness. Symptoms range from shortness of breath, fatigue and chest pain that can eventually lead to heart failure and death. By the time I was diagnosed I was in right heart failure and at 43% lung capacity. Unfortunately, this isn't uncommon. I went from being an active, healthy 25 year old to someone who is now physically limited and requires supplementary oxygen. I hope that in time I will no longer need supplementary oxygen.
I am raising money to help fund research towards Pulmonary Hypertension. With your help, we can help fund more research to find more effective treatments in treating (and one day curing) Pulmonary Hypertension.
Please help me Phight Against PH.
How Your Donations Help
The mission of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) is to find ways to prevent and cure pulmonary hypertension, and to provide hope for the pulmonary hypertension community through support, education, advocacy and awareness. Pulmonary hypertension is a rare blood vessel disorder of the lung in which the pressure in the pulmonary artery (the blood vessel that leads from the heart to the lungs) rises above normal levels and may become life threatening. For more information about Pulmoary Hypertension and where your donation will be going to please visit the website below.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to share my mission with anyone who you think might want to donate too!
