5 marathons. 5 consecutive days. 393K steps closer to a cure. Forrest Gump style.

The world needs dreamers who do.

My dream is that no one will have to hear the words, "You have MS."

I love running.

And I love my mom, who was diagnosed with MS in 1999. She continues to teach me about the resiliency of the human spirit by handling the effects of MS with strength, poise, and humor. She is a fighter, and, in turn, so am I.

Having multiple sclerosis means that you may not be able to run when you wake up.  Or, like my mom, that you may suddenly have impaired vision.  Or that your memory will fail you for no apparent reason.  The symptoms of MS are different for everyone - the only certainty is that it will affect yet another person every hour of every day. MS Run the US runs for a cure.

Today, there is still no cure for multiple sclerosis, and with a diagnosis occurring most frequently between the ages of 20 and 50, many individuals face a lifetime filled with unpredictability.

I am excited about, and committed to, the lofty goal of raising $20,000, but I need your help.
There are many deserving charities and it is with this knowledge that I am supremely grateful for whatever you can give. Truly -every dollar counts!

Where does your money go?  MS Run the US will donate 100% of your funds to MS Research.

I'm a corporate lawyer turned fitness journalist and ultramarathoner. SHUTUPANDRUN, my fitness Tumblr, was created for urban athletes who sweat with swagger and never sacrifice style for function. Fueled by the ethos that there is no finish line, I channel the collective energy of the world’s running crews, a family forged in sweat.

Growing up, my mom, a refugee from Cuba, always told my sister and I that we come from resilient stock. I have a tattoo on my ribs that says “resilient stock” and with every goal I tap into that well of resilience.

I play as hard as I work. I sing a fantastically bad version of Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary,” and am partial to grapefruit habanero margaritas.

The crevices of NYC are my playground. The road is my home.

We run free because we cannot be caught.
We run free to find a cure for MS.
