Ride America for Safe Routes (RASR) is a cross country bike campaign to benefit the bicycle safety advocacy efforts of the League of American Bicyclists and Safe Routes to School National Partnership. RASR will traverse 13 southern states, stopping in 20 major cities and logging over 5,000 miles between Florida and California. The Ride will start in Key West on February 5, 2012 and culminate in San Francisco in late April. We hope to cover between 50 and 100 miles each day, taking one rest day each week.
Our mission is to increase funding support for the League’s Bike Friendly America program and for Safe Routes to School (SRTS) programs in local communities. We are also advocating the critical need for bike safety through events with local bicycle groups and SRTS programs in communities along our route. Finally, we are promoting the public health benefits of bicycling for the individuals and communities involved. See our website at http://www.rideforsaferoutes.com for more information about why we think this mission is so important. Please help us support these causes by making a generous donation.
The Safe Routes to School National Partnership’s mission is to advocate for safe walking and bicycling to and from schools, and in daily life, to improve the health and well-being of America’s children and to foster the creation of livable, sustainable communities. Launched in August 2005, the Safe Routes to School National Partnership is a fast-growing network of hundreds of organizations, government agencies and professional groups working to set goals, share best practices, leverage infrastructure and program funding, and advance policy change to help agencies that implement Safe Routes to School programs.
The mission of the League of American Bicyclists is to promote bicycling for fun, fitness and transportation and work through advocacy and education for a bicycle-friendly America. The League does this by representing the interests of the nation's 57 million cyclists. With a current membership of 300,000 affiliated cyclists, including 25,000 individuals and 700 affiliated organizations, the League works to bring better bicycling to your community. The League's Bicycle Friendly America Program encourages states, communities and businesses to provide better facilities, encouragement activities, infrastructure and education for cyclists and publicly rewarding them for doing so.
Both the League of American Bicyclists and Safe Routes to School National Partnership rely on support and funding by the Bikes Belong Foundation. Bikes Belong Foundation is the charitable partner of the Bikes Belong Coalition and funds bicycle safety projects and children's bicycle programs. To simplify the donation process for you our fundraising dollars will be collected by Bikes Belong Foundation and distributed to our non-profit beneficiaries (the League of American Bicyclists and Safe Routes to School National Partnership) based on your designation when you make your donation. In the comment field on the donation form specify "Bike League" or "Safe Routes to School National Partnership" to direct your donation. Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure.
Please make your contribution today toward the future for safe routes! Many thanks for your support -- and please forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
