Dear Friends, Family, and Supporters of Wounded Veterans:

It's easy to forget that we have been at war for ten years.  However, since September 11th, 2001, over 2 million troops have deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, with over 40,000 wounded, and up to 50% reporting trouble with reintegration, and little available help.

Our vision is to transform the way wounded veterans are reintegrated into civilian society when they return from combat and are discharged from military service.

Through our Athlete Program, Team RWB Louisiana seeks to identify and unite athletes and members of the community to raise awareness and support for wounded veterans and the building of our advocacy program.   Please consider joining us locally as an athlete or an advocate.  Team RWB runs on people, so whether it is coming out to race or cheer us on, volunteering your time, services, or making a donation, please support this important cause in any way you can.

Over the last year, Team RWB Louisiana athletes have competed in fun-runs to ultramarathons, and triathlons from mini-sprint distance to Ironmans.  We are proud to say that our team members have not only completed these events, but have done so together, having had hundreds of athletes between several events.  Through creating a holistic and welcoming community made up of veterans, active duty service members, and civilians, Team RWB Louisiana is helping veterans reintegrate to civilian life and mobilizing community members to raise awareness for wounded veterans.  The team has become a welcome place for civilians and veterans alike, and we are excited to continue to create and  a healthy and holistic community in 2012.

After dozens of RWB runners showed up wearing the eagle to the Louisiana Marathon in January and the Freedom 5K and Mardi Gras Marathon in March, Team RWB Louisiana looks next to the Ironman 70.3 Lonestar in Galveston, TX, the Crescent City Classic in New Orleans, the Ironman 70.3 New Orleans in April, and the Crawfishman Triathlon in May.  We also plan on attending numerous non-athletic events, and hosting lunches, dinners, and social outings with the team.

Team RWB Louisiana has local athlete leaders and training groups in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Alexandria, Shreveport, and Lake Charles, but we are looking to expand further!  By the end of the 2011, Team RWB Louisiana aims to have an active advocate program in New Orleans, and to also provide free legal services and career counseling for veterans.

Together, we can change the paradigm which we use to respond to wounded veterans, and we can help ease the reintegration of the heroic men and women who fought to protect the society and freedoms we enjoy. Join us. It's our turn.

Yours Truly,

Jordi Goodman, Captain, RWB New Orleans
