For Japan With Love: Phase Two

We’ve all seen the images and videos rolling in of the devastation from the Japan earthquake and tsunamis. So far, the death toll is estimated to be over 10,000 and more than 17,000 are still missing. Hundreds of thousands of survivors are still camped out in temporary shelters. Some 660,000 households do not have water, more than 209,000 do not have electricity. Damage could rise as high as $310 billion, the government said, making it the most costly natural disaster on record. The nation is in for a long long road of recovery.

We are not ones to sit and not do something about this. While as much as we’d like to hop on a plane and fly on over there to help with the search and rescue, the immediate need for help for those in Japan is the dire need for shelter.

On March 14th, Lucia Dinh Pador and Henny Vallee of Utterly Engaged have teamed up with Lydia Yeung of Ever Ours to launch a fundraising page called For Japan With Love™ that's specifically geared to help with that. We have handpicked ShelterBox as the organization to donate to.

ShelterBox provide emergency shelter and lifesaving supplies for families around the world who are affected by disasters at the time when they need it the most. Each large green ShelterBox is tailored to a disaster but typically contains a disaster relief tent for an extended family, blankets, water storage and purification equipment, cooking utensils, a stove, a basic tool kit, a children’s activity pack and other vital items. A whole box costs $1,000 (US).

Our first effort raised $66,733! Which translates to 66 ShelterBoxes to help 660 people! All this thanks to the support and generosity of many people coming together to make a difference. Because we know that Japan still needs all the help it can get, we're launching For Japan With Love™: Phase Two, to continue this effort to provide shelter, warmth and dignity to survivors of disaster areas in Japan and all over the world. ShelterBox is constantly preparing boxes and responding to countries displaced by natural and other disasters.

Please join us. We know it won't save the nation, but we strongly believe every little helps. Whatever you can contribute, we truly appreciate. Thank you.
