Hello and Welcome to my fundraising page!
This year, once again, Andy Matteis and I are joining forces to raise funds for Lewy Body Dementia. Our goal is to increase awareness of this insidious disease that has claimed the lives of Andy’s brother Wayne and my husband Tom Graboys.
On November 4, 2017 please join me at Wellesley Cycle Bar for a spinning event from 1:30 PM – 2:15 PM as we ride to raise money and awareness.
Through education and outreach, LBDA supports all of those affected - patients, families and caregivers as well as promoting research for a cure.
Lewy Body Dementia, or LBD, is an often misdiagnosed, progressive type of dementia that impacts a patient’s motor skills, special awareness, basic movement, balance, memory, problem-solving skills, and often causes severe psychiatric indicators—including delusions and hallucinations. It is the second most common type of progressive dementia after Alzheimer’s disease.
In Tom’s case, he got a double whammy – LBD and Parkinson’s disease, which resulted in rigid muscles, slowed movement and tremors.
Tom began spinning at the Cycle Bar (formerly known as Spynergy) when Alex and Bill lead every class. Tom became a regular and a community was born that supported Tom in ways one can barely describe. Nothing was too hard for the class he fondly nicknamed the “Yummy Mummies.” He rode with them and they made certain his bike was just perfect. His water was by his side, his shoes were locked in and his towel was within reach. And if it meant that the water and towel had to be held for him – it was done. The ladies surrounded him with kindness and humor while Alex played all of his favorite music.
We in his family will always be grateful for the love and encouragement that enabled Tom to ride for almost 10 years.
I know that some of you will be unable to join us for the ride on November 4th – lead by our fearless leader Bill Pryor. But I’m hoping that you will be able to support us by donating to help me reach a personal goal of $10,000 to further the research and awareness efforts of the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
If you are able to join me for the ride, please register by copying and pasting the link below into your browser – which will take you directly to the riding for LBDA registration page.
