Hello, and welcome!
Presently, my mother and a brother are facing life with this "dancing disease". Huntington's disease (HD) is a devastating, hereditary, degenerative brain disorder that results in a loss of cognitive, behavioral and physical control. More than 30,000 people in the United States are currently diagnosed with HD. Each of their siblings and children has a 50 percent risk of developing the disease. Currently there is no effective cure.
HD is the most common genetic cause of abnormal involuntary movements called chorea. The term chorea is derived from the Greek word χορεία (=dance), as the quick movements of the feet or hands are compared to dancing, which is why the disease used to be called Huntington's chorea.
To learn more about our family and HD, visit my brother's web site, Make Life HD. Also, enjoy the wildly popular, crazy yet uplifting, "HD Blues", composed and performed by the international sensation himself, Brian Schrag, at HD Blues !

I recently wrote this blog post after spending time with my mom.
