The Literacy Council has been helping adults improve their reading and English language skills since 1985. This past year, we served over 1600 individuals in classes and one on one tutoring along with helping parents learn the importance of literacy activities for their young children.
In FY 2015, the Council had 125 dedicated trained tutors that volunteer their time and talent helping 150 learners to fulfill the Council's mission to provide literacy instruction to individuals and families to strengthen our community. In one year, our tutors have logged over 4000 hours!
Many learners want to attain their GED and provide a better life for their family. Each person in the stateline area who does not finish high school takes us all one step further away from a better life. A fully-educated workforce is a magnet for new industry, and new industry means more jobs and a higher standard of living. One of the many purposes of The Literacy Council is to provide the tools necessary to educate and stimulate the local economy.
