What is the Pups and Pucks Fall Walk-a-thon?

Four years ago, the Grand Rapids Griffins made a commitment to the betterment of our local animal community by partnering with Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary, the largest no-kill Sanctuary in the Midwest, dedicated to finding homes for abused, abandoned and neglected dogs.

Since then, they have participated in multiple campaigns to help adoptable dogs find their forever homes, including commercials, print materials, and walking rescued dogs in the Fall Walk-a-thon. Each year, the players and coaches walk rescued dogs in an effort to help find that dog and many others, their forever homes. They have also helped raise thousands of dollars for Mackenzie’s by collecting pledges.

At the walk-a-thon, you and your family (and your four-legged friends) can join the team by walking in an effort to raise awareness for abused, abandoned and neglected dogs. After the walk, join the fun and enjoy a variety of family-friendly activities including: Hay Rides, Petting Zoo, Arts and Crafts, a Pet-friendly Marketplace and so much more!

Our Goal:

Our goal at this year’s walk-a-thon is to raise awareness for abused, abandoned and neglected dogs in and to also raise $25,000 for Mackenzie’s future on-site veterinary clinic. The future clinic will function to better serve our dog population in a timely and more cost effective manner. Having our own clinic would enable us to provide spay/neuters, dentals, x-rays, and routine vaccinations and exams. Thus furthering our mission of providing the highest standards of care for our animals, including veterinary care!!!
