Saturday, September 16, 2017

First Annual Nyack Community Day Outrigger Canoe Race on Saturday, September 16 in Memorial Park, Nyack, NY. Racing Starts at 1:00 pm Sign up a team - no experience necessary (though you need to be able to swim).

The Hudson River probably won’t look like the Pacific Ocean near Hawaii, but we are bringing the sport of outrigger canoeing to Nyack. Come join in on the fun!

On Saturday, September 16th, at the first annual Nyack Community Day, local residents and visitors are encouraged to join us for the first Nyack Community Day Outrigger Canoe Race. No experience needed, but you need to know how to swim and be in shape enough to paddle 500 yards (how hard you paddle is up to you).

Sign up your team of five paddlers  by emailing your team name, list of paddlers and contact info for each paddler to

We will provide the 6-person canoes, the paddles, the life jackets, someone to steer the canoe (which is why you need 5 people) and some instruction. You will race against other local teams. We expect to have teams of firemen, police officers, and other community groups racing against each other to see who will be crowned this year’s Nyack Community Day champions.

Limit of eight team entries - first come, first serve. Entry fee $50 per team ($10 per person), plus teams are encouraged to raise additional funds to support the Nyack Center.

Quarterfinals starting at 1:00 pm. Winners in the quarterfinals will move on to the semifinals at 3:00 pm, and winners of the semifinals will compete in the finals at 4:00 pm. Each race consists of an out- and-back sprint of about 500 yards.
