WOD for Warriors Presents: 21 Guns, a Memorial Day Salute

Monday, May 28, 2012

A divide exists between military veterans and the civilian community. With the fighting force consisting of only 1% of the country's population, that divide is growing. This fact is damaging to Veterans as they attempt to reconcile their lives as they exit the military, and face a population that many times does not understand their experience. Team RWB, and WOD for Warriors, aims to bridge that divide.  WOD for Warriors brings CrossFit affiliates and individuals across the country twice a year - on Veterans Day, and Memorial Day, to help bridge the gap by making sure people remember what the days are all about, who they are for, and how they can help.

A 21 Gun Salute is the Nation's highest display of honor, appropriately reserved for our Fallen troops on Memorial Day.  Our WOD intends to replicate this honor, on behalf of the CrossFit community, to honor our Nation's Warriors, past, present, and future.

The 21 repetitions signify a 21-gun salute; the 5 exercises are one for each Branch of the Military. Executing with a Partner signifies the bonds we aim to create between our Nation's Warriors and the communities they grow in and return to, and doing it twice reflects the fact that we honor both the living and the deceased.
