October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Did you know?

One in 4 women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime. Children, elderly, and males are also victims of domestic violence.

60% of teens are in abusive relationships: 25% of that abuse is physical.

Connecticut averages 12 to 16 intimate partner homicides each year

"The Women's Center is such a wonderful place to go.  It is so welcoming and non-judgemental.  It gave me the opportunity to recover, understand it was not my fault, and get back on my own again.  My counselor was wonderful and reassuring.  She was a great help with resources and much encouragement as well as listening and letting me go at my own pace." -letter from community client

"The SafeWalk was amazing!  You helped us way more than we helped you!  It was a morning of wonderful bonding for our team and our mothers and sons.  We all learned a lot about each other and we felt awesome when we left there.  It was great to interact with our coaches as well.  I can't thank you enough for inviting us to be part of this incredibly powerful event.  I know that a lot of us are looking at the world a lot differently after Sunday.  Thank you, from the bottom of my heart!" -email from Ridgefield High School Booster Club Mom
